ARSENAL BATTLE MAN UNITED FOR SPANISH ACE
- Updated: 3 February, 2012
Arsenal have joined Manchester United in the chase to sign Spanish defensive midfielder, Javi Garcia according to media reports.
Arsene Wenger and Sir Alex Ferguson look set to battle it out for the signature of Garcia, who currently plays for Benfica and it is believed he is open to a move to either Old Trafford or the Emirates Stadium.
British newspaper, The Times, claim the 24-year-old is now being monitored by Arsenal after he had recently been linked with a switch to England with United, and is seen by Wenger as a perfect player for the Gunners.
Garcia came through the youth ranks at Real Madrid but struggled to establish himself in the first team, only managing 18 appearances before moving to Portugal in 2009.
Some impressive displays for the Lisbon club have seen his stock rise however, with United and Arsenal looking favourites to capture the player should he move.
