CHELSEA HAD £38M DI MARIA BID TURNED DOWN
- Updated: 12 February, 2012
Chelsea had a £38 million bid for Angel Di Maria turned down by Real Madrid according to English newspaper, the Daily Star.
The paper claim Andres Villas-Boas attempted to bring the player to Stamford Bridge but had the offer rejected by the Spanish league leaders who see the Argentine forward as an integral part of their side.
They also claim Manchester City have now been alerted to the situation as Di Maria is said to be unhappy with the £80,000 per week he receives at the Bernabeu.
Real Madrid bought Di Maria from Benfica in the summer of 2010 but a clause in the contract means they will have to pay the Portuguese claim an extra £10 million soon based on appearances.
Chelsea have monitored the player for a number of months and Villas Boas sees him as the perfect acquisition for the blues.
However it is now clear any club wanting to prise Di Maria from Madrid would have to pay a substantial amount of money.
