LIVERPOOL BATTLE UNITED FOR SPANISH STRIKER
- Updated: 26 February, 2012
Liverpool and Manchester United are both eyeing a move for Real Madrid striker Jose Maria Callejon according to press reports in Spain.
The 25-year-old forward was linked with a switch to Anfield last month after Marca claimed Kenny Dalglish had highlighted the player as a possible replacement should Luis Suarez leave the club, and now Fichajes.net claim United boss Sir Alex Ferguson may also attempt to bring Callejon to Old Trafford.
Granada-born Callejon came through the ranks at Madrid before moving to Espanyol in 2008. However, his impressive form in Barcelona persuaded los blancos to pay the Catalans a reported €5.5 million to bring him back to the capital last summer.
Callejon has scored eight times in 19 games for Jose Mourinho’s side this season but has struggled to cement a place in the team behind regular forwards Gonzalo Higuain and Karim Benzema.
Both Liverpool and United are keen to strengthen their attacking options during the summer and Callejon may be tempted to move to England in search of regular first team football.
