John Aldridge

“Aldo” moved to Spain in 1989 at the tender age of 31 to sign for Basque outfit Real Sociedad. Like rivals Athletic Bilbao had a Basque-only transfer policy, however they broke this when they signed Irishman Aldridge for £1,000,000.

Aldridge had a brilliant first season scoring 16 league goals. This meant he was the top scorer at the club and 4th overall in La Liga.

Unfortunately his time in Spain was cut short by a struggle to adapt to the country and he left after just 2 seasons. However his record was sensational, he scored 40 goals in 63 appearances for Sociedad.
