City set to smash transfer record in Ronaldo swoop?
- Updated: 30 March, 2012
Manchester City could be set to break to transfer record to sign Cristiano Ronaldo report Catalan daily, SPORT.
It is claimed City’s billionaire owner Sheikh Mansour has given Roberto Mancini the green light to go for Ronaldo and would be willing to smash the €96 million Real Madrid paid Manchester United, to bring the Portuguese star to the Etihad Stadium.
SPORT quote sources from Goal.com who claim City could be ready to offer Ronaldo between €400,000 and €500,000 per week and claim club officials approached the player last year in Abu Dhabi.
The player initially turned down that approach, however it is now claimed Ronaldo is more receptive of a return to the Premier League and Manchester in particular, after his relationship with Real Madrid officials seems to have soured in recent months.
City are currently three-points behind Ronaldo’s former club United in the race for their first league crown since 1968, however Roberto Mancini’s side have still to play their rivals in an Etihad Stadium showdown next month that could decide the title.
