DALGLISH TO FIGHT FERGUSON FOR MADRID DEFENDER?
- Updated: 4 March, 2012
Liverpool and Manchester United are still eyeing a move for Real Madrid’s Raul Albiol, according to reports this weekend.
Reports on Spanish site Fichajes.net first suggested Kenny Dalglish was interested in taking the Real Madrid defender to Anfield last month, and later claimed Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson was also showing interest in the Spanish international.
Now reports in Spain claim both clubs have maintained their interest and have sent representatives to the Spanish capital in recent weeks.
Albiol has fallen down the pecking order at the La liga club and is said to be disgruntled with his situation at the Bernabeu, where French youngster Raphael Varane has been favoured over the former Valencia player by Jose Mourinho.
The 26-year-old has played 31 times for the Spanish national side and is in his fourth season at the current La Liga leaders.
United have suffered injury problems this season with Ferguson’s side rocked by the long-term injury to key man, Nemanja Vidic.
Liverpool meanwhile are looking to strengthen a defence that includes an ageing Jamie Carragher.
