In a sport and league where defending has become more about pace than strength and ability, Alba has thrived. Since his shift from a winger to a fullback the Spaniard has become one of the most prominent up-and-coming youngsters in the game; his combination of intelligence and decision making with speed and agility has allowed Jordi to take control of the left side of the ground nearly every time he steps on to a football pitch.

The 22 year olds recent occupation of the left back spot for the current European and World champions has definitely not gone unnoticed, and in a sport where the left fullback position is probably the weakest around, teams with ageing players in that position such as Barcelona, Manchester United and Chelsea will hope they have the opportunity to put a bid in this summer, but that chance may not arise as many believe Los Che officials are close to agreeing a long term contract with the player.
