Man United eye summer swoop for Spanish starlet

Manchester United are eyeing a summer move for Athletic Club midfielder Oscar de Marcos, after the player impressed during the la liga side’s recent triumph over United in the Europa League report the Daily Mirror.
United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has sent Old Trafford scouts to Bilbao to watch the 22-year-old and follow-up trips suggest a summer move for the Lauguardia-born player is a real possibilty.
Ferguson’s side were comprehensively beaten by the Basque club and de Marcs played a pivotal role in both games, scoring at both Old Trafford and in the San Mames return.
The Spanish under 23 international has a release clause of £26 million in his contract, although United would be unwilling to meet that amount for a player yet to receive a full call-up for the Spanish national team.
De Marcos looked to be on his way out of the club before Marcelo Bielsa took over in the summer, but the Argentine coach has since transformed the player into one of his side’s most effective players this term, and Athletic will be loath to let him leave the club.
However if a substantial offer is made for de Marcos, the club may have little option but to agree to his sale.
Manchester United have also been linked with Athletic’s Javi Martinez and Iker Muniain in recent months, and the Basque side have one of the most exciting young squads in Europe.
