Mourinho contacts Chelsea star over Madrid switch
- Updated: 20 May, 2012
Chelsea’s Branislav Ivanovic has been contacted by Jose Mourinho over a summer move to Real Madrid according to reports from MARCA.
The Serbian international full-back was linked with the side coached by ex-Chelsea boss Mourinho last week when the Mail Online claimed the Spanish champions were also eyeing a move fro Arsenal defender Thomas Vermaelen, however Marca go further to suggest the Serb has been contacted by the Portuguese coach to see if he would be willing to sign for the Bernabeu side in the summer.
Ivanovic arrived at Stamford Bridge in January 2008 after a £9.7 million deal from Russian outfit Lokomotiv Moscow and was an instrumental part of the Chelsea side that reached the Uefa Champions League final against Bayern Munich on Saturday, although the 28-year-old missed the game through suspension.
It is reported Mourinho has requested a defender and midfielder during the summer transfer window and it is believed Ivanovic and Modric are the perfect players for this role.
However it is also acknowledged any deal would prove difficult as Chelsea are not a club that need to sell players; especially one so popular at Stamford Bridge.
