Arsenal set for Real Madrid battle over Argentine star
- Updated: 6 June, 2012
Premier League side Arsenal are in talks with Argentine midfielder Lucas Biglia according to reports in The Sun, however they face a battle from Spanish giants Real Madrid.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger hopes to bring the Anderlecht midfielder to the Emirates Stadium, and it is claimed both Arsenal and Real Madrid have been in contact already.
The Sun quote the 26-year-old Argentine international as saying: “Real Madrid and Arsenal have both been in contact and I’ll wait to see what happens.
“I am still under contract with Anderlecht until 2015, but they know that I plan to leave.”
The £8 million-rated midfielder played 35 times games and scored twice last season to help his club to their second successive Belgian league crown.
Biglia joined Anderlecht in 2006 from Independiente and has played over 150 games for the Belgian club, scoring nine goals.
Arsenal were linked with the player by the Metro in February however it was reported scout Gilles Grimaldi had told Biglia’s representatives that they must see a bigger improvement before they consider making a bid to take him to the Emirates.
