Getting There
The famous old stadium, known locally as la Catedral is situated in central Bilbao, around 2 km east of the old city centre – within easy walking distance of most areas and Bilbao’s two adjacent rail stations. In fact it is a 30 minute straight walk east down the Gran Via to the stadium.
Both of Bilbao’s two metro lines (L1 and L2) take you to the stadium, which has its own stop. San Mamés is just three stops from the main station at Abando.
It is also possible to get the Euskotran to San Mamés which runs along the river Nervión, passing the old city town, train stations and Guggenheim museum.
