Alvaro Arbeloa
The right-back has been serviceable for the national team since his debut in 2008, appearing in all three tournaments (EURO, Confederations Cup, and WC 2010). However, he is not the greatest full-back; Athletic Bilbao’s Andoni Iraola would most likely have been the starter if not for a slew of injuries.
Right-back is most likely Spain’s weakest position, and Arbeloa could be benched in favour of Juanfran (who made his national team debut in last month’s friendly), Raul Albiol (unofficial master of the own-goal), or even Sergio Ramos, depending on the situation at centre-back. Arbeloa must be solid if Spain are to avoid being caught on the counter attack.
