United set to miss out on Spanish international star
- Updated: 27 June, 2012
Manchester United look set to lose out on reported target Jordi Alba as the player closes in on a move to Barcelona report Catalan daily, SPORT.
The 23-year-old was recently linked with the Old Trafford club by the Daily Mail who claimed United boss Sir Alex Ferguson saw the Spanish international as a long-term replacement for Patrice Evra.
Evra arrived at Old Trafford in 2006 and has played over 200 games for United, winning the Uefa Champions League and four league titles under Ferguson, however with the French international now 31-years-old, Alba was reportedly seen as the perfect replacement.
United may now need to look elsewhere however as SPORT today report a deal between Barcelona and Alba’s club Valencia is imminent.
It is understood the transfer will be in the region of €12 million with a number of variables added to the deal that both clubs are negotiating today – hoping to finalise the agreements shortly.
Alba is currently on international duty at Uefa 2012 where Spain have eased into the Semi Final where they face Portugal tonight.
United meanwhile, will fly to South Africa in July for their pre-season tour – also playing in China and Norway before returning to Old Trafford.
