Newcastle United are readying a move for Real Madrid defender Ricardo Carvalho according to media reports in Spain
The Spanish site of Goal.com claim Newcastle boss Alan Pardew wants to bring the experienced Portuguese star to St James’ Park – even suggesting a firm offer could be made this week.
It is believed the original source for the information comes from England and is, as yet, uncorroborated.
Carvalho was recently left out of Jose Mourinho’s 23-man squad that are now on their pre-season tour of the United States, and the 34-year-old has been heavily linked with a move away from the current Spanish champions.
The former Chelsea player has been capped 75 times by Portugal and is one of the most experiences players in Mourinho’s squad, however, it now appears he is surplus to requirements at the Bernabeu.
Newcastle enjoyed a fantastic first full season under the tutelage of Pardew last term, finishing fifth to bring European football back to St James’ Park for the first time in five years.
