Man United and Chelsea set for three way battle over French star?

Manchester United and Chelsea could be joined by La Liga champions Real Madrid in the chase for French youngster Lucas Digne according to Spanish sports daily, MARCA.
Both United and Chelsea were linked with the 19-year-old defender earlier this month by the Daily Mail, who suggested scouts were sent from Old Trafford and Stamford Bridge to watch Digne play for his club Lille against Rennes in Ligue 1.
Now it is understood that Madrid have inquired about Digne’s availability during the January transfer window – prompted by injuries to Marcelo and Fabio Coentrao.
Both United and Chelsea are also looking for some new faces in defence, with earlier reports suggesting Sir Alex Ferguson was keen to find a replacement for ageing fullback, Patrice Evra. Reports from TalkSPORT this week also hinted that Roberto di Matteo may have to bring some defensive cover to Stamford Bridge soon as Ashley Cole stalls on agreeing a new one year extension to his current contract.
Both Chelsea and Real Madrid lost their respective Champions League group games this week, while United came from behind to beat Braga 3-2 at Old Trafford.
