Arsenal set for Barca transfer battle over teenage sensation
- Updated: 18 November, 2012
Arsenal look set for a battle in their pursuit of Derby County sensation Will Hughes, with Mirror Football reporting Barcelona are tracking the highly-rated teenager.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is already well aware of the 17-year-old midfielders talents, with the Mirror Football initially reporting Arsenal looked to be heading the chase to land Hughes.
However, it is now understood La Liga giants Barcelona have entered the chase for the England Under-21 international – after first being alerted to his talents during a youth tournament held in Portugal earlier this year.
Manchester City and Liverpool have also been linked with the Hughes, however, it is Arsenal who are understood to be heading the queue – with chief scout Steve Rowley giving Arsene Wenger glowing reports of the Weybridge-born player.
Mirror Football also recently reported Wenger was considering a £4 million punt to bring Hughes to the Emirates Stadium, with Derby County boss Nigel Clough comparing the teenager to former Arsenal great, Liam Brady.
