Chelsea given a boost in pursuit of South American ace
- Updated: 18 November, 2012
Chelsea have been given a boost in their pursuit of Jackson Martinez according to The Metro, after the Porto ace admitted he was pleased to be linked with the London outfit.
Blues boss Roberto di Matteo has so far had to rely on £50 million striker Fernando Torres this season, however, The Metro now claim Chelsea want to bring a top-class striker to Stamford Bridge.
With a number of clubs showing interest in the 20-year-old Colombian star, Chelsea may well see an opening to move for the player after Martinez spoke of his pleasure at being linked with the West London club.
Speaking to Portuguese website O Jogo, Martinez said: “Chelsea and Barcelona? Sincerely I have not spoken with anybody but this is a good signal about my performances in the Portuguese Liga.”
However, Martinez is also quoted as saying: “Now I am focused exclusively on my work for Porto, I prefer to ignore the rumours about clubs being interested.”
Chelsea began the season as the in-form team and stormed to the top of the Premier League, however, di Matteo’s men have only picked up two points from their last four games and were beaten 2-1 by West Bromwich Albion on Saturday.
