Arsenal to battle Serie A for La Liga defender
- Updated: 1 May, 2013
Arsenal are set to battle with Lazio and Juventus for highly rated Sevilla FC defender Federico Fazio, according to sources in Spain.
Reports in Seville based sports newspaper Estadio Deportivo suggest that due to the clubs financial difficulties, Fazio will leave the Ramon Sanchez stadium this summer.
And with doubts surrounding the future of club captain Thomas Vermaelen, Arsene Wenger has emerged as a contender to bring the 26 year old central defender to the Emirates Stadium.
Agent Ariel Kiperszmind told tuttomercatoweb:
“In January the club rejected offers from Germany and Russia but in the summer they could be looking at making millions of Euros”
“There are four Italian teams interested in him and Serie A could be a good destination for him, but there are also admirers in England”
With one year left on his contract, the 6ft 5in Argentine is expected to cost no more than £5million and could represent a bargain for which ever side snaps up his services this summer.
