UNITED AND SPURS FIGHT FOR LA LIGA DEFENDER
- Updated: 27 February, 2012
Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur are set to battle it out for the signature of Martin Caceres according to web reports today.
Both Sir Alex Ferguson and Harry Redknapp are said to want the Sevilla centre-back, who is currently on loan at Italian side Juventus, and English site Footy Bunker claim Spurs and United could be on collision course over the player at the end of the season.
The Uruguayan international spent three years on the books at Barcelona before making the permanent switch to Sevilla last year, however the 24-year-old has failed to settle in Andalucia and moved to Italy on loan last month.
Manchester United are in desperate need of defensive cover at Old Trafford and Caceres could be the perfect option for Ferguson, who lost key man Nemanja Vidiv to injury before Chrsitmas.
Spurs meanwhile are looking to strengthen a squad that includes injury-prone Ledley King and Redknapp knows the club need more depth for another good run in the Champions League.
