Real Madrid ended week 28 with their lead cut to eight points at the top of la liga, after Santi Cazorla’s last-gasp goal gave Malaga a share of the spoils at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Karim Benzema had given Jose Mourinho’s side the lead just past the half-hour mark but Cazorla’s sublime stoppage-time free-kick left the home fans stunned and consolidated Malaga’s position in fourth place.
A Roberto Soldado hat-trick gave third-placed Valencia an impressive 3-0 victory over a disappointing Athletic Club at San Mames, with Andoni Iraola seeing red for the home side.
Elsewhere, Villarreal parted company with coach Jose Molina after slumping to another loss, this time high-flying Levante. The 1-0 defeat leaves the yellow submarine three points above the drop zone and proved costly for Molina, who was already the club’s second coach of the season after taking over from Juan Carlos Garrido was fired in December.
In the day’s other fixture, Radamel Falcao missed a penalty as Atletico Madrid lost 2-1 to ten-man Mallorca in Palma.
LEVANTE 1-0 VILLARREAL
MALLORCA 2-1 ATLETICO MADRID
ATHLETIC CLUB 0-3 VALENCIA
REAL MADRID 1-1 MALAGA
