FORMER ARSENAL STAR SET FOR HOMECOMING?
- Updated: 17 December, 2011
The rumour mill is in full swing ahead of the January Transfer window, and elcentrocampista.com will be bringing you the very latest transfer rumours ahead of the frantic wheeling and dealing in the New Year.
Reports in the Spanish press are suggesting Atletico Madrid winger Jose Antonio Reyes could be set for a return to his hometown club, Sevilla.
After developing a very fractious relationship with new Atletico manager Gregorio Manzano, Reyes has found himself often shoved on the sidelines to the increasing angst of the Rojiblancos faithful.
Having seen a move to Turkish giants Galatasaray break down, it is now widely anticipated that Reyes will head back to Sevilla, the club where he started his career.
Sevilla boss Marcelino has been looking for another forward player to play behind Alvaro Negredo in a bid to take the weight of Negredo’s shoulders. Other forward Fredi Kanoute and Manu del Moral haven’t managed to nail down a first team spot this year, so Reyes is seen as the perfect player to support Negredo.
A €3.5m fee is in the offing but Atletico want closer to €6m for the former Arsenal forward, so any complications will lead Sevilla to the ex Barcelona prodigy Giovani dos Santos, now at Tottenham Hostpur in England.
The Mexican was a favourite of Marcelino during their time together at Racing Santander and with dos Santos struggling for game time at White Hart Lane, he might favour a move back to Spain to kick-start his faltering career.
Either way, it’s clear that Sevilla are moving to get a forward player as they search for a Champions League spot in La Liga.
